You know that you can get a local bus/coach up to Bansko from Sofia.
They leave the central Bus station in Sofia about every half hour. Just get a taxi from the airport to the bus station in Sofia and get on the next bus leaving its about 30 lev.
You really only need to get a transfer if you are arriving on a late flight or on a very tight schedule.

Flaine,
I've done the bus journey...once. It is a 3 hr journey with one 30min stop...very comfortable and relaxing actually! The one problem is that it takes you to Bansko, then you have to pay a ridiculous 18 euro taxi (12 months ago) to site.
Best regards geoff

The bus journey is very enjoyable. The only thing that I would advise is make sure you use the WC (as they call it in Bulgaria) before leaving as they lock the toilets on the bus. No idea why..
For added interest if you have time, you could get the bus to Plovdiv, a 1 hour journey and stay the night there, the old town in Plovdiv is one of the loveliest I have seen. Unfortunately there are not many buses each day from Plovdiv to Bansko. Leaving about midday its a beautiful 3 hour journey through the mountains.
I have done this journey many times by car and its lovely. When I got the bus to Bansko I let my Hotel know which bus I was on and they met me at the bus station.. it was all part of the service.
Perhaps you could email the hotel in advance and let them know approximately what time you will be leaving Sofia and ask them if they could arrange a pickup at the bus station. Then when you are on the bus you could phone them and confirm your arrival time.
Another thought also I have found that it is easy and really worth learning to recognise what the place names look like in Bulgarian especially Sofia and Bansko. Hope this helps BPAG

Hi All,
We got back yesterday, and used Bansko cheap transfers, had no problems it cost me £104 return for two people.
BPAG, your idea sounds interesting i will certainly think about that for next time.
Thanks
